A prestigious champagne reception and awards ceremony has been held to recognise the excellent and significant contribution which volunteers across Birmingham and the Black Country have made to West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The ceremony, which recognised the achievements of Community First Responders, Fundraisers for the County Air Ambulance, and Voluntary Car Drivers, was held on Friday night (12th October) at The Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club, Meriden.

The awards were presented by the High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Mr A J Arkwright, and by the Chief Executive, Mr Anthony Marsh. The regional event was attended by Mayors and Mayoresses from across the West Midlands region, along with 300 invited guests.

Mr Marsh said: “This is our opportunity to thank the volunteers from all the Counties covered by West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, who, over a number of years, have provided assistance to the public.”

Awards for Fastaid responders:



Community First Responder of the Year David Monk
David is the current Chairman of the Fastaid Community Responder Scheme – Birmingham and the Black Country. He co-ordinates all activities concerning the group, as well responding for many hours every week.

Longest Serving Community First Responder Adam Cummins
Adam was a founder member of the Fastaid Community Responder Scheme in the Birmingham and Black Country Locality. Since joining as a volunteer Adam has now progressed onto a full time Ambulance service career.

Community First Responder Attending Most Incidents Steve Trow
Steve is a member of the Fastaid Community Responder Scheme – working in the Walsall area. Steve has responded to hundreds of Emergency Calls providing excellent treatment for patients and support for the community.

Steve was also given a Chief Officer Commendation for attending two incidents where he utilised his equipment and skills, defibrillated the patient, provided CPR and in both cases brought the patients back to life. Steve is a fine example of how important and valued our volunteer network is.
