CFRs Run for Fun in Knowle

May 15th, 2009

Knowle Fun Run team - Dave Monk, Sam Jackson, Steve Franklin and Tim AthertonOn Sunday 10th May FastAid entered the Knowle Fun Run in Aid of local charities. To create a higher level of awareness Tim Atherton, Dave Monk, Sam Jackson and Steve Franklin agreed to run with a spine board loaded with a resus Annie and a Defibrillator The distance of the run was 5 miles and was harder than they had hoped! The four runners came in with an excellent time of 55 mins, quicker than many other runners!  They were also escorted by CFR’s Pauline Walker and Karen Ratcliffe who helped clear the way as they steamed ahead shouting “stretcher coming through”

Before the run there was a 999 call in the local Church just a few hundred metres from the start and quick thinking Mark Atherton who was on call in Knowle was deployed to the call but decided the quickest response would be to get CFR’s destined to do the run to attend, given FastAid CFR’s always have their kit bags and defibs close by. Mark therefore quickly called Tim Atherton and both Tim and Dave ran to the church, already in their FastAid uniform, with fun run runners not sure whether they were running in the wrong direction for the Fun Run or attending a call. Both Tim and Dave managed to get to the patient within just a couple of minutes to care for the patient before handing over to the Paramedic who attended.

Having almost worn themselves out they then had to return to embark on the Fun Run wondering if they had any energy left! Within about 15-20 mins after returning from the call they were on the start line with their fellow runners who all then went on to complete the 5 mile course and stormed across the finish line in a blaze of glory as can be seen above..
